15 - Your favorite male character.

I wouldn’t go so far as to call him the main character of The Silmarillion, but close.. lets call him pretty important. I don’t even know what to say without writing a goddamn essay on this character. To me he comes off like such a sad character, he is trying so hard to do what he believes is right, and he fails again and again. He is a tormented character, angry and hateful, but on the same time is not mad like his father. The power that corrupted others just broke him instead till he gives up being the high king and hands the crown over to his uncle, seeing himself as a huge failure just as most elves does. And then sets off on his own quest with his remaining brothers. I believe he does go mad in the end, but unlike his father who set out to take on the world, Maedhros wants to undo what has been done, and undo himself to rid him of regret. Maybe the keyword for him is regret? I don’t know but it seems to me that his entire existence is to be the eldest son of Fëanor, never himself. 

And yes I admit to actually crying the first time I read the Silmarillion.
